Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Integration in Education Award

PURPOSE OF THE AWARD

This award recognizes an educator who has made exemplary contributions to the implementation and use of ICT in Kenyan schools through integration in school curriculum.

This Award recognizes secondary school teachers who have left a mark in use of ICT to enhance teaching and learning through ICT integration. These teachers are the Master Integrators who know and understand the contribution ICT can make in enhancing teaching and learning.

Eligibility
Any full-time educator or administrator employed by an educational entity in Kenya, whose primary job responsibility is teaching in secondary school level.

This award targets secondary school teachers. The award seeks to recognize teachers in all 12 subjects offered at secondary level. Out of the subject awards, 3 best examples will be selected for top awards.

NOMINATION AND SELECTION PROCESS
Only one nomination will be accepted from each Kenyan school, Associations, Individuals, Ministries and other stakeholders. The ICWE Africa Technology Award Committee will select a winner from the nominations received according to the scoring criteria.

Nomination Criteria

A deliberate and innovative implementation of technology integration to improve teaching and student learning
Indicators:

• Is there evidence that the nominee has addressed diverse student learning needs using different instructions based on technology?
• To what extent has the nominee used technology promote relevance and excellence, for example, higher order thinking, problem solving, and real world applications?
• To what extent has the nominee been involved in evaluation of technology materials and media to determine the most appropriate technology use within school?
• Has the nominee been instrumental in establishment and enforcement of classroom policies and procedures that address legal, social, and ethical issues related to technology use within school?
• To what extent has the nominee been instrumental in planning and developing technology integrated instructional materials for the school?
• To what extent has the nominees actions influenced other teachers within school environment?
• To what extent has the nominee been innovative in approach to use of technology within school?

AWARD PRESENTATION
The award winner will be announced at the Regional Educators Conference in E-Learning to be held at Kenya Institute of Education, Nairobi on 29th  31st March 2010.
